What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology gives control and independence to people who struggle to complete everyday tasks such as making phone calls, turning on lights and answering the door to visitors.
Independent living solutions can range from a door entry system or a paging system for a spouse or carer through to complete home automation and communication packages using a wide variety of environmental control and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems.
Controllers operate the household environment (e.g. doors, curtains, lights etc) using either Infra-Red or Radio signal. The RSLSteeper design team continually develops new solutions for independent living, including the newly launched home automation application for the iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone – evoassist allowing users to control their home environment using a mainstream device.
RSLSteeper also provides full building planning and consultancy services, advising architects and builders for new build houses, residential homes, schools, independent living accommodation, life skills, rooms and refurbishments. We also install systems into current builds with our team of highly skilled engineers and assistive technology advisors. RSLSteeper provides life skills facilities into schools such as Treloar College in Hampshire. Life skills allow children with disabilities to learn independence from a young age.
We have undertaken many building projects in private homes – including design, installation and maintenance. We also work with many residential care homes such as those operated by Leonard Cheshire Disability. Installing and maintaining doors, windows, curtains, and all TV and media functions within the resident’s room – providing complete independence and freedom.
RSLSteeper give control back to improve people’s lives.
